The role of the CBA

The CBA is responsible for a safe and efficient domestic payment system in accordance with the Central Bank Ordinance: 

  • As a catalyst and innovator: ensures that payment systems are in line with international best practices and contribute to payment innovations to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and security of the payment landscape in Aruba; 
  • As an operator: operates the clearing and settlement system (Instant Payment Clearing & Settlement Mechanism/I-Pago); 
  • As an overseer: monitors existing and evaluates future systems, and assesses their compliance with the regulatory framework. We are currently developing a regulatory framework for Oversight of the payment system in Aruba.
